Membership Information on Fees and Anticipated Expenses:

Ticket system:
$90 per 5 practices. The fee is used for the rent and the liability insurance.
For members who practice more than 5 times a month, $90 is the maximum fee for one month. So, even if a member practices 8 times a month, for example, the member only pays $90 per month.

There is no initiation fee.

All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF) and All Eastern United States Kendo Federation (AEUSKF) annual fee (as of 2009):
All Yudansha: $60 (AUSKF$40+AEUSKF$20)
Adult Kyu over 17 years old: $60 (AUSKF$40+AEUSKF$20)
Youth 17 years old and under without dan: $45 (AUSKF$25+AEUSKF$20)

Promotion test, tournament, seminars, etc:
These events incur additional cost such as program fee, travel cost, etc.

Kendo equipment:
Kendo is not an inexpensive activity. Practice sword, protective gear, hakama and dogi, etc. have wear and tear, and replacement is needed over time. Some major expense items are listed below.

  • Shinai (bamboo practice sword): Can range between $30 - $100+. A good shinai for adult on average is around $50. For children, the cost is on average around $40.
  • Bokuto (wood sword for Kendo kata): Approximately $20 to $40.
  • Keiko-gi and Hakama: Price varies depending on quality. Can range between $80 and $400.
  • Bogu (protective gear): Price varies greatly, depending on quality. Low end bogu are around $400 and high-end bogu are around $2,000+. Custom-made bogu can be very expensive and cost over $10,000.

You can get Kendo equipment from on-line stores. We have some small stocks for necessary equipment as well.

We have no rental equipment.
